Congratulations to Gordon Brown on being appointed a Companion of Honour.
He becomes only the second former UK Prime Minister to be given the honour. The first was John Major in December 1998 for services to the Northern Ireland peace process.
Two other Prime Ministers have been given the honour, but before they were appointed to the premiership: Winston Churchill in October 1922 and Clement Attlee in June 1945.
